What does entrepreneurship look like in Central Asia’s border regions – and what do local businesses need to grow?

On 2-9 September 2026, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 11) launched a series of field missions to map business initiatives and entrepreneurship support ecosystems across Central Asia, starting with Batken Region in Kyrgyzstan and Surkhandarya Region in Uzbekistan.

On 14-15 September 2026, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 11) organised a regional roundtable on women’s entrepreneurship in Central Asian border regions in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The two-day event brought together representatives of government institutions and civil society organisations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to exchange experiences and explore ways to strengthen women’s economic empowerment and cross-border cooperation.

From 22 to 23 July 2026, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 11) organised a regional workshop in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, bringing together female representatives of state institutions responsible for gender policies and gender mainstreaming from across Central Asia. The workshop focused on strengthening women's participation and promoting gender-responsive approaches to cross-border cooperation.

From 16 to 17 June 2026, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 11) organised a regional workshop in Astana, Kazakhstan, bringing together representatives of state authorities and civil society organisations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan to strengthen cooperation on preventing trafficking in human beings (THB), promoting safe migration, countering radicalisation and enhancing youth engagement in border regions.

On 21 May 2026, the 11th phase of the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 11) was officially launched at the Opening Conference in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Between 30 March and 22 April 2026, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia – Phase 11 (BOMCA 11) conducted the first round of National Steering Group meetings across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
