Ideas and recommendations elaborated on cooperation between law enforcement sector and civil society to protect children and engage women in preventing violent extremism

Some 35 participants, officials from international and regional organisations, international experts, as well as representatives of civil society and relevant government agencies from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan attended the workshop “Law enforcement agencies and civil society to prevent violent extremism”, and shared their insights and lessons learned on cooperation to enhance the detection and prevention of violent radicalization. The workshop took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on 14-16 February 2024, and was jointly organised by BOMCA and LEICA (Law Enforcement Programme in Central Asia).

Effective Communication: A Handbook for Local Self-Government Authorities in the Border Regions of Central Asian Countries

Local authorities are the first contact points for the border areas population in address any issues. Therefore, the BOMCA Programme and its Component 4 have been supporting local authorities in further building up their communication skills.

BOMCA 10 supports Central Asian customs agencies in promotion of gender equality and gender mainstreaming in customs management

In cooperation with the State Customs Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, the EU-funded BOMCA 10 Programme organised a joint webinar series which aimed to promote gender equality and enhance gender mainstreaming in customs management, as well as strengthening women leadership in the customs agencies of Central Asian countries.

Veterinary Service of Kyrgyzstan received specialised equipment to improve its operations at Kyrgyz-Uzbek border

On 13 December, the EU-funded BOMCA 10 programme handed over specialised equipment to the Veterinary Service of Kyrgyzstan, under the Ministry of Agriculture, including 2 incinerators, which were installed at the checkpoints “Dostuk” in Osh region and “Kyzyl-Kiya” in Batken region.

EU-funded BOMCA 10 keeps strengthening phytosanitary control at the border between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan

On 13 December, the EU-funded BOMCA 10 programme handed over the mobile unit for the Department of Chemicalization Protection and Quarantine of Plants of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan (Department), installed at the checkpoint “Madaniyat”, located in Nooken district in Djalal-Abad region.

BOMCA advances customs education through provision of distance learning equipment to the Specialised Training Customs of Kyrgyzstan

On 1 December, BOMCA 10 handed over the distance learning equipment to the Specialised Training Customs under the State Customs Service of the Kyrgyz Republic. The official handover ceremony took place during the meeting with Mr. Samat Isabekov, Chairman of the State Customs Service under the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Strengthening capacities of Central Asian law enforcement agencies in investigation of cross-border crimes related to trafficking of firearms, explosives and ammunition

On 27-29 November, BOMCA once again joined efforts with Law enforcement programme in Central Asia (LEICA) this time for a  workshop in Bishkek gathering investigators and crime intelligence officers specialising in investigations of cross-border crimes such as trafficking of firearms, their parts, explosives, ammunition, currency and other goods. The expert team from the Customs Criminal Service of Lithuanian Republic together with LEICA experts introduced the EU good practices and novel methods of investigation of such crimes, presenting relevant case studies and helped review national procedure.
