Training of trainers on identification and profiling completed in Kazakhstan

From 27 June to 1st July, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) in partnership with Law Enforcement in Central Asia Project (LEICA) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Programme for Central Asia (UNODC) held a training of trainers (ToT) in Almaty on identification and profiling techniques for experts from law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan. The training enhanced the knowledge and skills in the methodology of identification and profiling of foreign terrorist fighters, irregular migrants and drug traffickers.

Consolidation of efforts in training on identification and profiling in Kyrgyzstan

From 20 till 24 June, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Programme for Central Asia (UNODC) and Law Enforcement in Central Asia Project (LEICA) held a training of trainers (ToT) on identification and profiling techniques for experts from law enforcement agencies of Kyrgyzstan. BOMCA contributes to the digitalisation and optimisation of customs processes in Uzbekistan

From June 21-23, 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia organised a technical assistance mission to Tashkent, in the form of a national workshop for the Uzbek specialists responsible for planning, development and implementation as well as further maintenance and improvement of the customs declaration systems, digitalisation and automation of customs processes and declaration systems, analysis of business processes and defining user requirements for the improvements. The workshop was devoted to the improvement of customs processes and e-services, related to the electronic submission and processing of customs documents, as well as the development of Single Window.

Central Asian senior level investigation officers enhancing the capacity in fighting and investigating the various forms of cross-border crimes

From 20 to 23 June, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia organised a study visit to the Republic of Lithuania for senior level officers of the investigation units of the border guards, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors’ offices, national security agencies from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

As part of the Call for Proposals within Component 4 of the BOMCA Programme, a video recording of the 2nd Information Session, which took place on 13 June, was released. The meeting provided details on the technical and administrative aspects of the application process, as well as featured a question and answer session to answer questions from potential applicants. State Border Guard College of Latvia shared experiences with the academic staff of the border guard training institutions of Central Asia

From 15 to 17 June, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia organised a study visit to Latvia for the representatives of the Border Guard Training Institution and Centres from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The objective of the study visit was to take part in the international scientific and practical events and to study the European Union’s educational approaches, exchange experiences and strengthen the institutional partnership among Border Guard Training Institutions of Central Asia and Latvia.

The EU-funded Programme improves information exchange for border crime analysis in Central Asia

From 14 to 16 June the Border Management Programme in Central Asia Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors held a regional workshop in Nur-Sultan for representatives of border guard services and law enforcement institutions from Central Asian countries. The participants learned about modern methods and tools for crime analysis, information exchange and forms of cooperation based on the Lithuanian experience.

BOMCA held a national workshop on the development of Integrated Border Management Strategy in Uzbekistan

From 14 to 16 June 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held a technical mission in form of a national workshop in Tashkent, on the development of Integrated Border Management Strategy and its implementation plan for representatives of Border Troops of the State Security Service, Border Faculty of the Armed Forces Academy, State Customs Committee, including the Customs Institute, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including the Academy, State Committee of Veterinary and Livestock Development and other related agencies of Uzbekistan. The workshop familiarised participants with the advantages of an integrated approach to border security and developed recommendations on the strategy framework and key elements, including its implementation plan.
