BOMCA Programme represented at High-Level International Conference on "International and Regional Border Security and Management Cooperation to Counter Terrorism and Prevent the Movement of Terrorists”

Representatives of the EU-funded BOMCA contributed to the High-Level International Conference on "International and Regional Border Security and Management Cooperation to Counter Terrorism and Prevent the Movement of Terrorists”, held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan from October 18-19, 2022.

Mr. Maris Domins, BOMCA 10 Regional Manager participated in session IV, “Strengthening Regional and International Cooperation on Border Security and Management in the Counter-Terrorism Context: The Way Forward”, where he focused on the activities conducted by BOMCA towards strengthening capacities of Central Asian border and law enforcement agencies to detect and counter international terrorism phenomena.

BOMCA 10 held a Regional workshop on the development of manual for Central Asian border control agencies

From October 17 to 19, BOMCA 10 held a Regional workshop on the development of Manual for border control for the representatives of Border Agencies of the Central Asian countries and the Migration Service of Turkmenistan.

This workshop promoted a provision of European Union practice on the organisation of border control at border control points (BCP) including document checks at the 1st line of control - elaboration of Manual for border control for use in Central Asian countries.

K9 trainers from Central Asia completed ToT in Latvia

On October 14, at the Canine Center of the State Border Guard College of Latvia, the closing ceremony took place of the training course for specialists in the field of cynology (training for instructors) for five countries in Central Asia - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. This training course was organized under Component 2 of BOMCA  10 “Improvement of detection capacities”.

Tajik Customs academic staff learned from peer-to-peer traineeships in Latvia

From 11 to 13 October, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia, BOMCA 10, organised a short-term traineeship in Latvia for representatives of the Customs Institute of the State Customs Committee of Tajikistan.

BOMCA 10 assisted in improving cooperation between Customs, Phytosanitary, and Veterinary services to facilitate trade in Tajikistan

From 11 to 13 October, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia BOMCA 10 organised a technical assistance mission on inter-agency cooperation between Customs and Phytosanitary, and Veterinary Services involved in border control at border check points. The assistance is targeted at the representatives of the Customs Service and Food Security Committee respectively under the Government of Tajikistan (responsible for veterinary and phytosanitary control at the state border).

From October 6-7, the latest round of National Steering Group meetings was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. The meeting was aimed at reviewing the Programme’s progress for the year and to define plans for the upcoming period. For this purpose, the BOMCA 10 leadership, representatives of the European Union and implementing partners met with the key partners, such as state agencies and international organisations.

From 27 to 30 September 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held training for representatives of local authorities coming from the several Tajik border regions working with the border areas population directly, as well as representatives of governmental authorities based in Dushanbe that implement regional policies in the areas of migration, economic development and gender.

From 27 to 29 September 2022, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia held a regional workshop in Riga, Latvia on the recognition of anomalies in X-ray images for freight transport on land borders for custom officials of Central Asian countries.
