EU-funded Programme keeps enhancing information and evidence exchange in cross-border crime investigations in Central Asian countries

From December 5 to 7, 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) held a bilateral workshop for representatives of investigation units of the law enforcement agencies and prosecutor's offices from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. This activity aimed to analyse the current practices of information and evidence exchange in cross-border crime investigations in Central Asian countries with a major focus on Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and evaluate problematic aspects of information and evidence exchange in the investigation of cross-border crimes.

BOMCA 10 assists the Central Asian Phytosanitary agencies in the effective application of IPPC standards

From 22 to 24 November 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) held a regional workshop with elements of the Training of Trainers methodology (ToT) on the alignment of national plant legislation with the provisions of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) requirements for representatives of phytosanitary agencies, and agencies which are involved in the implementation of IPPC standards in import/export controls.

On 23 November, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia – phase 10 (BOMCA 10) held its 2nd Regional Steering Group (RSG) meeting. This event serves as a steering instrument of the programme, which defines and monitors the strategic direction of the programme implementation.

BOMCA 10 held Regional workshop on the alignment of national legislation with the provisions of HACCP standards

From October 18 to 20, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held a regional workshop, focusing on  elements of the Training of Trainer (ToT) methodology on the alignment of national legislation with the provisions of HACCP standards, FAO/WHO’s Codex Alimentarius/” Food Code” requirements, and preparation for the accession to and/or implementing those standards.

BOMCA Programme represented at High-Level International Conference on "International and Regional Border Security and Management Cooperation to Counter Terrorism and Prevent the Movement of Terrorists”

Representatives of the EU-funded BOMCA contributed to the High-Level International Conference on "International and Regional Border Security and Management Cooperation to Counter Terrorism and Prevent the Movement of Terrorists”, held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan from October 18-19, 2022.

Mr. Maris Domins, BOMCA 10 Regional Manager participated in session IV, “Strengthening Regional and International Cooperation on Border Security and Management in the Counter-Terrorism Context: The Way Forward”, where he focused on the activities conducted by BOMCA towards strengthening capacities of Central Asian border and law enforcement agencies to detect and counter international terrorism phenomena.

BOMCA 10 held a Regional workshop on the development of manual for Central Asian border control agencies

From October 17 to 19, BOMCA 10 held a Regional workshop on the development of Manual for border control for the representatives of Border Agencies of the Central Asian countries and the Migration Service of Turkmenistan.

This workshop promoted a provision of European Union practice on the organisation of border control at border control points (BCP) including document checks at the 1st line of control - elaboration of Manual for border control for use in Central Asian countries.

K9 trainers from Central Asia completed ToT in Latvia

On October 14, at the Canine Center of the State Border Guard College of Latvia, the closing ceremony took place of the training course for specialists in the field of cynology (training for instructors) for five countries in Central Asia - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. This training course was organized under Component 2 of BOMCA  10 “Improvement of detection capacities”.
