From 27 to 29 September 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held national workshop in Tashkent on risk analysis for representatives of the border guard, customs and law enforcement agencies engaged in the border management of Uzbekistan.

Training of trainers on identification and profiling techniques held in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan

From September 16 to 23 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) held a Training-of-Trainers (ToT) course on identification and profiling techniques in Tashkent and Ashgabat. The course was aimed at training national experts from the Border Guards, Ministries of Interior, Transport Police, and National Security Committees of both countries on identification and profiling techniques. Subsequently, these trainers will continue to transfer this knowledge within their respective national agencies.

Uzbek Customs, Veterinary and Phytosanitary institutions enhance their e-learning capacities

From September 13-15, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held a workshop in Tashkent for the personnel of border agencies and training institutions.

This workshop aimed to increase the effectiveness of the training programmes of the Border Agencies of Uzbekistan by integrating e-learning solutions, based on the European Union Member States’ (EU MS) practices in the fields of introducing e-learning systems and developing the IT competence of teachers to create their own online courses.

BOMCA held the latest round of National Programme Steering Group Meeting in Uzbekistan

From September 8-9, the first National Steering Group (NSG) meeting was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The meeting was aimed at reviewing the Programme’s progress for the year and to define plans for the upcoming period. For this purpose, the Programme’s leadership, representatives of the European Union and implementing partners met with the key partners, such as state agencies and international organisations.

BOMCA improves capacity of dog handling instructors in Central Asia to search for drugs

On July 25, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia started a training of trainers (ToT) course for dog handling instructors specialising in drug searches in Latvia. H.E.   Mr. Timur Primbetov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Latvia, and Mr. Kristaps Eklons, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, took part at the opening of the event. The training course is a three-month event gathering five trainers, one from each country of Central Asia, and it aims to improve theoretical and practical knowledge during in-training of canine teams and service dogs used for daily border guarding tasks, including the detection of drugs.

EU-funded Programme improves cooperation on border crime analysis among agencies of Central Asia

From July 19 to 21 the Border Management Programme in Central Asia, in partnership with the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for Combating the Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors (CARICC), held its second regional workshop for representatives of border guard services and law enforcement institutions of all five countries in Central Asia. The participants learned about modern methods and tools of crime analysis, information exchange and other forms of cooperation during investigation of cross-border organized crimes.

Strategic risk analysis of law enforcement agencies in Uzbekistan strengthened by EU expertise

From 13 to 15 July 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held a workshop in Tashkent on strategic risk analysis for representatives of the border guard, customs and law enforcement agencies engaged in border management in Uzbekistan. The workshop aimed to familiarise participants with the principles and methodology of the Common Integrated Risk Analysis Model used in the European Union (EU) and to provide information on a systematic approach to data collection and analysis.

On July 4, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia has started a training of trainers (ToT) course for dog handling instructors specializing in explosive searches. Held in Lithuania, this three-month course gathers five trainers, one from each country of Central Asia. The ToT course aims to improve the theoretical and practical knowledge during  in-training of canine teams and service dogs used for daily border guarding tasks, including detection of explosives.
