BOMCA 10 and UNODC jointly organised a study visit for the senior and operational level representatives from Central Asia to FRONTEX and Polish Border Guard

On 7-9 March 2023, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) jointly with the UNODC initiative on enhancing cross border cooperation in Central Asia and (BOMCA 10) organised a study visit to the European Border and Coast Guard Agency - FRONTEX (Warsaw, Poland) and the Polish Border Guard for 15 representatives of the border control authorities from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

BOMCA continues to strengthen training capacities of Kazakh customs officers on vehicle searches

From 15 to 17 February, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) held a training of trainers (ToT) on car and truck searches in Almaty. This activity targeted representatives of the customs and border guard agencies responsible for organising the training process and development of the methodology for inspecting vehicles in Kazakhstan.

EU-funded Programme held online workshop on illegal migration from Afghanistan

On February 14, 2023 the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) held a regional online workshop in Dushanbe on distance learning about border management in Tajikistan and countering irregular migration from Afghanistan for representatives of the law enforcement agencies engaged in the border management of Central Asian countries.

EU-funded Program released Booklet on human right standards and vulnerable persons

Border Management Program in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) released the Booklet on human rights, gender, eliminating sexual harassment and gender sensitivity issues in the framework of workshops that have been held in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. They were conducted in the framework of Component 2, “Improvement of detection capacities”, aimed at supporting law enforcement agencies in evidence-based investigations, specifically dealing with the detection and investigation of cross-border crime.

BOMCA 10 keeps improving cooperation on border crime analysis among agencies of Central Asia

From 6 to 8 December 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) held a workshop in Astana for representatives of the border guard and law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan on cooperation with INTERPOL. The participants familiarized themselves with legal, procedural and technical solutions for cooperation with and running of activities through INTERPOL.

EU-funded Programme enhances information and evidence exchange in cross-border crime investigations in Central Asian countries

From November 28 to 30, 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) held a bilateral workshop for representatives of investigation units of the law enforcement agencies and prosecutor's offices from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. This activity aimed to analyse the current practices of information and evidence exchange in cross-border crime investigations in Central Asian countries with a major focus on Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and evaluate problematic aspects of information and evidence exchange in the investigation of cross-border crimes.

Risk analysis of border guard and law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan strengthened by EU expertise

BOMCA 10 held a national workshop in Astana on risk analysis for representatives of the border guard, customs and law enforcement agencies engaged in the border management of Kazakhstan. The workshop introduced participants to the basic principles, applicable practices and regulations and joint border security risk analysis procedures, based on the European experience, and provided an overview of the national system, legal framework and approved activities necessary to develop the risk analysis systems.
