EU Programme continues to support the sustainability of K-9 training area in Kyrgyzstan

On February 11, 2022 in Bishkek, the opening ceremony of the newly equipped K-9 classroom of the Military Institute of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic named after Lieutenant General K. Usenbekov took place. Representatives of the Border Guard Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic; the leadership of Military Institute, Border Guard Faculty; the EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic and the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) Programme participated in the ceremony.

BOMCA increases awareness of Kyrgyz state beneficiaries regarding the detention and accommodation of migrants, and their forced return

From 1-3 February this year, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia, in partnership with the UN Refugee Agency and the International Organization for Migration, held a national workshop on international standards on the identification, detention and return of irregular migrants. Representatives of the Migration Council Secretariat under the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, the Foreign Ministry’s Department of External Migration, the Internal Affairs Ministry’s Service for Countering Extremism and Illegal Migration, the State Committee for National Security’s Border Guard Service, and the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Migration took part.

Central Asian NGOs improved their project management skills

From January 20 till 27 2021, 30 representatives of Central Asian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) completed a project management interactive course, as part of the “Improvement of cross-border cooperation” thematic area of ​​the BOMCA Programme. The employees of NGOs working in the border areas of the Central Asian region took part in the training course.

The EU-funded BOMCA Programme contributes to enhancing cooperation between the border guard and customs services in the Republic of Uzbekistan

From January 17 till 19, 2021, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) held an online workshop in Tashkent on the delegation of functions between the Border Guard and Customs Services of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The workshop was attended by officials of the national border guard and customs agencies, responsible for the organization, coordination and control of procedures at the border crossing points.

From January 12 till 14 2021, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) held a workshop in Bishkek on the delegation of functions between Border Guard and Customs Services of the Kyrgyz Republic. Officials of the headquarters of the border guard and customs agencies of the Kyrgyz Republic, responsible for the organization, coordination and control of the procedures at the border crossing points, took part in the event. The workshop aimed at supporting the enhancement of cooperation between the border guard and customs services, as well as  optimizing border and customs control procedures at the state border crossing points.

Tajik Border Сontrol Officers improved their knowledge on document security

From December 14 till 16 2021, BOMCA 10 held a National Training of Trainers on Document Security in Tajikistan, aligned with the European Union's best practices, and in cooperation with Frontex. The training course addressed officers responsible for border checks and experienced in the best practices of document verification, who will consequently train their colleagues.

Training on European standards for Kyrgyzstan’s K-9 Units

On December 14-16, 2021, in Bishkek, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held a national workshop for the heads and experts of K-9 centers in Kyrgyzstan. The workshop aimed at training K-9 units in detecting different types of smuggled goods as well as to show European good practices focusing on detection of arms, explosives, ammunition, drugs, precursors and currency during their deployment.
