From 1-3 March, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held the training of trainers on car and truck search in Dushanbe. This activity targeted representatives of the customs and border guard agencies responsible for organising the training process and development of the methodology for inspecting vehicles in Tajikistan. The training strengthened skills and competencies for effective inspection of cars and trucks crossing border posts in order to identify illegally transported goods, weapons, drugs and other high-risk items.

From March 2 – 4, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held a regional workshop in Tashkent for the Heads of Investigation Units of the Border Guard and Law Enforcement Agencies in Central Asian countries. The workshop expanded coordination and cooperation in the area of information exchange between the law enforcement agencies dealing with the investigation of cross-border crimes.

From 1-3 March 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia, in partnership with the Programme Office of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, held a workshop in Bishkek on strategic risk analysis for representatives of the law enforcement agencies engaged in the border management of Kyrgyzstan. The workshop aimed to familiarise participants with the principles and methodology of the Common Integrated Risk Analysis Model used in the European Union (EU) and provide information on a systematic approach to data collection and analysis.

From February 24 to March 3, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held a regional online training course on the Project Management Cycle for 30 representatives of Central Asian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in border areas. The course was a part of the “Improvement of cross-border cooperation” thematic area of ​​the Programme, aimed at contributing to better living conditions in border areas through local economic development and support to vulnerable groups.

From February 22-24, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia held a national workshop in Almaty for the experts of K-9 Centres of Kazakhstan, improving the K-9 service work and training system of Kazakhstan law enforcement agencies.

From 16-18 February of this year, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA), in partnership with the UN Refugee Agency and the International Organization for Migration, held a national workshop in Uzbekistan on international standards in identification, detention and return of irregular migrants. Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Internal Affairs, State Security Service and Border Troops of the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in the event.

From February 15 till 18, 2022, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) in partnership with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX), and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) held a national training of trainers (ToT, basic level) on document security in Bishkek. The training aimed at enhancing the capacity of trainers and instructors with the expertise in documents authenticity verification and advancing their skills in detection of forged documents.

On February 11, 2022 in Bishkek, the opening ceremony of the newly equipped K-9 classroom of the Military Institute of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic named after Lieutenant General K. Usenbekov took place. Representatives of the Border Guard Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic; the leadership of Military Institute, Border Guard Faculty; the EU Delegation to the Kyrgyz Republic and the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA) Programme participated in the ceremony.

From 1-3 February this year, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia, in partnership with the UN Refugee Agency and the International Organization for Migration, held a national workshop on international standards on the identification, detention and return of irregular migrants. Representatives of the Migration Council Secretariat under the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, the Foreign Ministry’s Department of External Migration, the Internal Affairs Ministry’s Service for Countering Extremism and Illegal Migration, the State Committee for National Security’s Border Guard Service, and the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Migration took part.
