  • Thematic Component: 4. Improvement of Cross-Border Cooperation
  • Country: Kazakhstan

From 23 to 25 June, a series of seminars on “National and international mechanisms for the protection of human rights in Kazakhstan” were organised by the Human Rights Commission under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the support of the Akimat of Aktobe region, OSCE Programme Office in Astana and the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10), held in the village of Kobda, the Aktobe akimat and the Aktobe law institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The seminars focused on key aspects of building a rule-of-law state and mechanisms for the realisation of human rights and freedoms in Kazakhstan. The training sessions addressed the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, women, children, migrants, victims of human trafficking and stateless persons. Special attention was given to labour legislation, including guarantees for vulnerable categories of workers, the resolution of labour disputes, the use of mediation, and the prevention of social conflicts. International human rights protection mechanisms were also discussed in detail, including procedures for submitting individual complaints to UN committees and cooperation with the Ombudsperson, government agencies, and civil society organisations. The seminar served as an important platform for experience exchange, raising legal awareness and strengthening partnerships between state institutions and civil society.

This activity was implemented within the framework of Component 4 of the Programme “Improvement of Cross-Border Cooperation”, which aims to facilitate local cross-border development and cooperation with a focus on anti-corruption, human and migrant rights and gender equality.
