BOMCA 10 strengthens national expertise in document security in Kyrgyzstan

  • Thematic Component: 1. Institutional Development of Border Control Agencies
  • Country: Kyrgyzstan

On 12-15 May, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) organised a national training of trainers (ToT) course on document security in Osh, Kyrgyzstan.

Led by a BOMCA 10 expert from the Latvian State Border Guard, the advanced-level training brought together national specialists in document authentication. Participants explored EU best practices in second-line border control procedures, including common techniques used in document forgery and the thorough verification of electronic data carriers for authenticity. Through practical exercises, national experts learned to analyse and detect alterations, as well as various types of personalisation and security printing methods. The training placed special emphasis on modern education methodologies, equipping participants to deliver structured, practice-oriented lessons to local field staff. To facilitate the exchange of information on document security and to establish a regional network of experts, participants also were trained on the alerting of falsified travel documents through national points of contact.

Training was organised within the framework of Component 1, “Institutional development of Border Control agencies”, which aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of border control agencies in Central Asia.
