On 2 June in Ashgabat, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) organised a training workshop on “Profiling and interviewing at border crossing points”.

The workshop was held in an online format with participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The training was attended by the representatives of border and law enforcement agencies from Central Asian countries, as well as the instructors from specialised training institutions. The expert speaker was Mr. Berdimurat Chariev, Inspector of the Training Department of the Central Office of the State Migration Service of Turkmenistan. During the workshop, the participants learned the basics of psychological profiling at border crossing points, including how to recognise suspicious behaviour, detect signs of lying and use brief interview techniques to assess a person's intentions. The program included interactive case analysis, practical exercises and discussion of complex situations.

This activity was organised within the framework of Component 1 “Institutional Development of Border Control Agencies” of the BOMCA 10 Programme aimed at strengthening the institutional capacities of border management services in Central Asian countries.
