In Tashkent, from September 23 to 25, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10), organised a technical assistance (TA) session on the elaboration of standard operational procedures for phytosanitary and veterinary (SPS) import controls, gathering representatives of the SPS agencies responsible for the development and/or implementation of import controls in Uzbekistan.
This BOMCA 10 activity aims to introduce or improve modern working methods and other tools for SPS institutions of Central Asian countries and develop a general standard operational procedure for inspectors, applicable for practical inspections of consignments, as well as during primary training.
As per the activity’s expected results, it is foreseen that enhanced consistency and effectiveness of control procedures for goods entering Central Asian countries will ensue, as well as strengthening the capacity of their SPS authorities to conduct effective controls on imported and exported goods, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and protecting public health.
Recently this activity was organised for Tajik beneficiaries and will be implemented in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.
