On 5 May 2025, the EU-funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA 10) handed over high-tech forensic and digital investigation equipment, valued at EUR 109,214.07, to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat.
Earlier, in March 2025, the Programme conducted practical training for the staff of the Centre for Criminological Research of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on the use of 3D scanners for evidence collection. Building on this workshop, the newly provided equipment, which includes a terrestrial 3D laser scanner, tablet, desktop computers, printer, laptop, specialised software and data acquisition tools, will enable investigators to create highly precise 3D models of crime scenes which will improve the accuracy and reliability of forensic examinations, as well as align investigative processes with international best practices. In addition, BOMCA 10 delivered four sets of MOBILedit Forensic Pro software licenses, along with computers, monitors, and connection kits. These tools will assist investigators in recovering deleted, hidden or encrypted data from digital devices such as smartphones, computers and storage media. This is crucial for investigating cross-border crimes, including drug and weapon trafficking. One set of MOBILedit Forensic Pro software, along with a PC and monitor, is also planned for handover to the General Prosecutor’s Office.
This support is under BOMCA 10’s Component 2 “Improvement of Detection Capacities”, aimed at strengthening the investigative capacities of law enforcement agencies and promoting evidence-based investigations.
