BOMCA announces Photo Contest

Duration: 25 September – 25 October 2016 

Border Management Programme in Central Asia launches would like to invite you to participate in the photography contest on the theme "People living in border lands – mixture of cultures, unity of souls". The contests presents an opportunity to share your view and express your vision of the life of people in border lands of Kyrgyzstan and to present through the camera objective how do they communicate with each other.

The pictures could conceptualise the following topics: 

  • Communication of people in borderlands
  • Influence of borders vicinity to the daily life 
  • Confidence building between ethnic communities

Requirements to photos submitted to the contest

Submission of an entry presupposes the acceptance of all competition conditions by the participants. 

The contest is open  for adult photographers (18 years and above). One participant can present one to three photos maximum

Participants are invited to present photography expressing their vision on peaceful daily life and communication between people of different nationalities living in border areas. 

One photo should be of size not less than 3MB

Photographs should be printed in size A3, and electronic version should be also provided.  Participants should write their first name, last name, age, address and telephone number as well as description of the photo (no more than three lines), short essay about the photo  and where and when it was taken . 

The photograph must not contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content. 

The caption must be complete and accurate, sufficient to convey the circumstances in which the photograph was taken. Disguising or misrepresenting the origin of your content is cause for disqualification. 

Watermarks are unacceptable

The deadline for receipt of the photographs is October 25, 2016, 17.00 Bishkek time. Entries should be submitted to the BOMCA office in the Kyrgyz Republic on the following address:

Late, illegible or incomplete submissions and submissions that do not meet the entrance criteria as outlined will not be considered.

A jury will be established to select the winners. No appeal on the method of the organisation or on the results of the competition will be accepted. The jury's decision will be final. BOMCA reserve the right not to award a winner if none of the submissions meets the quality 

All photos must not have been published or awarded with a prize in any other photographic competition before. 

Certain restrictions may apply. Entries are void if BOMCA determines the photograph to not be an original, or if the entries are incomplete, inaccessible or blocked, corrupted, damaged, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error or obtained through fraud. 

The intellectual property rights, including copyright, to the work will remain with the photographer. The entrant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual, non-commercial, non-exclusive royalty-free license to BOMCA. This license includes (but is not limited to) the right to use, publish, reproduce and feature any or all aspects of the work in any of the documentation, media work and/or promotion of events by BOMCA.

It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that any images they submit have been taken with the consent of the subject and do not infringe their rights, including privacy rights, intellectual property rights, including copyright or any other rights of any person. By entering this competition, all entrants agree to hold BOMCA harmless of any claims, costs or expenses, including but not limited to damages, arising out of the participation in this competition or any competition-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse or possession of any prize awarded hereunder. 

Contest prizes

The First Place Winner will receive a digital photo camera Nikon Coolpix P900. Winner is responsible for all taxes and fees associated with prize receipt and/or use. If a prize (or part of a prize) is unavailable, BOMCA, in its discretion, reserves the right to substitute the original prize (or that part of the prize) with an alternative prize of equal or greater monetary value and/or specification, unless to do so would be prohibited by law. 

Second and third places winners will receive BOMCA promotional prizes.
