On the 26^th of May 2021, a regional team of the EU funded Border Management Programme in Central Asia and Afghanistan - Phase 10 (BOMCA 10) met with the First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for National Security - Director of the Border Service Colonel Ularbek Sharsheev. The meeting is part of chain of introductory meetings with the top management of BOMCA 10 main beneficiaries in Kyrgyzstan.

During the meeting, Mr. Maris Domins, BOMCA 10 regional manager, informed the host about the official start of the programme in Central Asia and Afghanistan as of 1 April 2021. He also briefed him on BOMCA 10 scope, partners and structure, action plan and upcoming inception meetings planned for June - July 2021.

Colonel Sharsheev congratulated the team on the launch of the new phase of the BOMCA programme and expressed support to the project. He briefed the team on the current structure and changes within the service following its transfer to the State Committee for National Security. Colonel stressed that these changes would not affect cooperation with the BOMCA 10 and noted that all programmed activities would continue as planned.

Colonel Sharsheev expressed his gratitude to the entire staff of the BOMCA programme for the support provided during the 9^th phase (2015 – 2020) and for the assistance provided during the initial stage of COVID 19 pandemic outbreak, when BOMCA provided protective equipment for border guards. At the end of the meeting, he awarded BOMCA 9 staff with the Letter of Recognition for their contribution.

BOMCA 10 aims to contribute to increased overall security and stability in Central Asia and Afghanistan through improved border management, enhanced fight against drug smuggling and drug trafficking and by facilitating movement of goods and cargo across the borders to promote intra-regional trade.
