Best strategies of reintegration of migrants were discussed during regional workshop in Nur-Sultan

Regional workshop on strategies of reintegration of migrants was held in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan on 17-19 September. The event, facilitated by experts of International Center on Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), gathered 20 representatives from the agencies dealing with migration (Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Ministries of Interior, Migration Services) from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.

Having in mind needs and challenges that migration and its consequences poses in CA region, it is also necessary to pay attention to such important aspect of migration as reintegration of migrants. Main goal of the event was to introduce the best international and European strategies in reintegration and also to define national short-term and long-term needs in the field of reintegration of migrants in order to identify priorities. Participants from CA countries reported on existing national procedures and practices in reintegration and repatriation of migrants, European experts in their turn introduced European standards and approaches. Special attention was paid to legal base for reintegration, support upon arrival, instruments of assistance and reintegration packages. Examples of consultation centers in country of origin were discussed.

Based on discussions and exchange of views with the national experts, the EU experts will develop recommendations to specific pieces of the national legislation in line with international best practices.
